Last Week of School

The last week of school is considerably one of the best weeks of school.  But are you skipping or going? There are pros and cons of actually showing up to the what seems like year long days.  Pros: Most of your teachers are just as excited for summer as you are, so they don’t want to teach, just as much as you don’t want to learn.  This usually will end with a win/win situation, movies, free periods, food, etc. But it’s not all kittens and rainbows. Maybe your teacher is saving the hardest test just for your last day, and your mom or dad are forcing you to go to school because they don’t know what they would do with you otherwise.  They can get you babysitting gigs, or assign you chores, but at that point you would just rather go to school. All you can hope for is the sigh of relief when you hear the last bell ring three hours before the original one.

What are ways that guarantee a faster last week of school?

  1. Never look at the clock. Looking at the clock will only make you more anxious and the time will just slow down.  Wait until you see everybody else cleaning up. This is the one situation where you are allowed to be a “go along to get along”.
  2. It’s the last week of school, try to enjoy it while you can.  Yes school is probably going to be one of the hardest, longest twelve years of your life, getting more difficult the closer you get the end. But the last week of school is the week of visions.  This is the last week that you will see the small classrooms filled with tables. Take it in, this keeps your mind off the bell making the days hopefully get shorter and shorter.
  3. Technology today is amazing, you can have countdowns timing to the last second of school, but that doesn’t mean that they are help full.  Just like the bell, you believe that looking at it every five minutes will somehow make it go faster than it already is, but it doesn’t help just like a countdown app.  Many people are fans of them, such as myself, but to a certain extent. They are very help full for counting down the last month of school, but once it reaches seven days, zero hours, turn it off.  It’s not going to “help” you get through that last week, it will just make you as anxious as you are when you look at the clock. So the most simplest thing to do is just turn it off, don’t look at your device, think about the things that you plan to do after school and look forward to those. That’s what is going to get you through those long hours.
